WX5KR · Amateur Extra · Houston area
Radio is something I operate, build, and share.
I’m Kori Rahman, WX5KR—an Amateur Extra operator and aerospace engineer active in portable HF, digital modes, public-service communications, and Houston-area amateur-radio organizations.

What I’m doing
Mostly radio, in several different forms.
Some days that means working stations from a park. Other days it means helping run a net, supporting an event, testing an antenna, or figuring out why a radio and computer are not talking to each other.
At home and in the field
HF, VHF, UHF, voice, digital modes, CW practice, POTA, satellites, and portable stations.
BVARC and Houston POTA
I serve as BVARC Vice President and co-founded Houston POTA, where I am President.
Communications that have a purpose
ARES, RACES, EMROG, Wings Over Houston, traffic nets, and other public-service work.
Houston POTA
Getting people outside and on the air.
Houston POTA grew from weekends at the park with friends into an independent amateur-radio club with scheduled events around the region. We bring stations, antennas, batteries, tools, food, and enough spare pieces to help newcomers get on the air.
I am a co-founder and the current President. The club call is KE5HP; I am not its trustee.

On the workbench
Projects that work, even when the box is not finished.
I like assembling useful systems, testing them, and improving them after seeing what happens in actual operation.
25-watt UHF repeater
Two mobile radios, an isolated audio path, computer control, and a compact duplexer retuned with a NanoVNA.
Portable go-kit
A transportable station built around the radios, tuner, audio, coax, test equipment, and small pieces needed away from home.
Portable power
Battery systems designed to keep a station operating at a park, in the car, or when utility power is not available.
